2023
May 31 - Had a great time presenting a poster at EEID and meeting so many excellent disease ecology researchers. I got to share a year of work on how we can use CAR models to test hypotheses about what drives avian influenza prevalence at large spatial scales. Publication coming in 2024.
February 25 - Presented my research on AIV prevalence and was voted 3rd place for best research talk at the Front Range Student Ecology Symposium held at Colorado State University. There was stiff competition, all the talks I saw were excellent. I enjoyed getting out of my disease ecology bubble and hearing about other students research.
February 2 - Excited to announce that I have received funding from the USDA to continue our work on modeling continental scale spatial transmission of avian influenza viruses. Thank you to our collaborators at APHIS for your continued support for this project. We look forward to developing an interactive tool to predict spillover risk in North America.
2022
June - Happy to announce that I have secured additional funding from the USDA to support avian influenza risk assessment, risk identification, and surveillance planning. Hopefully our work can help us prepare for the next epizootic.
May - Enjoyed my first EEID but unfortunately I couldn't travel to meet folks in person. Organizers did a great job with the online poster session and thanks to all those in-person attendees who logged in to chat with me about avian influenza!
March - We have secured additional funding to determine the risk of introduction and spread of novel avian influenza viruses from Eurasia into North America.
February - Gave a talk on migratory host networks at the Front Range Student Ecology Symposium held at Colorado State University. Thanks to folks in the audience for being engaged and their great questions!
2021
March - Excited to be partnering with the USGS and the USDA to model the spatial transmission of avian influenza virus via Northern Pintail Ducks. This will be the focus of my dissertation and I am looking forward to working on this problem with great collaborators.
